Application Procedures
Applicants must provide all of the following in order to be considered for a Scholars for Environmental Research award.
- Application cover sheet
- One-page letter of application addressed to the Teresa Heinz Scholars, which gives the program title of your research and explains (a) the public policy relevance of the research and (b) the value added by this award
- Prospectus should be no longer than six pages in length, prepared in a 12 pt. font with 1½ line spacing. References or citations should be included in the first six pages. Anything over six pages will not be reviewed.
- Completed budget worksheet
- Toefl or Melab scores (enclose a copy of these test scores if your first language is not English)
- Two letters of recommendation (These letters should be forwarded by the recommender directly to The Heinz Foundation)
- Official graduate transcript(s)
- Curriculum vitae
- Letter from the major professor, department chair, or other university official certifying that by May 31, 2008, the student will have satisfied all requirements for the Ph.D., except the dissertation (dissertation applicants only).

Application Dates and Deadlines
Application materials must be postmarked by January 31, 2008. Scholars funding is for the period of June 1, 2008 to August 31, 2009.
Tenure of awards must be completed by the end of May 2010.

Letters of recommendation must be mailed separately, from their authors, directly to The Heinz Foundation at the same address.
